Gutter Repair & Drain Clearing in Exeter
Fix leaking joints, replace broken sections and unblock the drains and gullies underneath. We work all over Exeter and the surrounding Devon area — St Leonard's, Heavitree, Pinhoe and the towns between.

The Moore & Franks approach in Exeter
Across Exeter, the gutter calls split by neighbourhood. The Victorian terraces of St Leonard's and Newtown run on old cast-iron and shared valley gutters that crack at the joints and leak down party walls, while the 1930s bay-fronted semis around Heavitree and Pinhoe tend to suffer at the hopper and downpipe joins. Add the heavy autumn drop from the mature trees out at Pennsylvania, Duryard and along the Quay and downpipes block solid by November. We're based just down the road on Ferryman Way in Topsham, so the city's our patch — we reseal leaking joints, refit sagging runs and hoppers, and clear the gullies so the water actually goes where it should. Twenty-five years at it and a free quote on the lot.
The newer estates ringing the city — Cranbrook, Newcourt and Monkerton — have brought thousands of homes onto modern uPVC guttering, and now that the earliest of them are past their first decade the plastic is starting to move. Brackets clipped to plastic fascia work loose in the heat, joint seals harden and weep, and a run that looked fine at handover drops out of fall. We refit the brackets, renew the seals and bring the fall back so the water runs to the downpipe instead of pooling and dripping.
Down in the conservation streets around Southernhay and the Cathedral quarter it is a different job entirely. Period stone and cob townhouses here carry original cast-iron ogee guttering, and when a joint fails the water tracks straight down soft historic render and washes it out. We match the existing profile rather than patch it with mismatched plastic, reseal the seams and re-fix the cast brackets, and keep the whole approach sympathetic to fabric that does not take kindly to a heavy hand.
A clear gutter still overflows if the water has nowhere to go, and across the older parts of St Thomas and Wonford the gully drains under the downpipes silt up with leaf mulch and grit. We rod them through and check the downpipe shoe is actually feeding the gully rather than throwing water at the wall. Once it all runs freely we flush the run to make sure there are no lingering leaks — the point is to fix the cause, not just chase the drip.
Our Exeter customers are right on our doorstep. We cover the wider EX1, EX2, EX3, EX4, EX5 postcode area and the surrounding villages (St Leonard's, Heavitree, Pinhoe, Topsham, Pennsylvania, Exeter Quay).

Frequently asked questions
Quick answers to the questions we get asked the most. If yours isn't here, drop us a line — we reply same day.
There is no fixed price — gutter repair is quoted per job, because a single weeping joint is a world away from a dropped run on one of the tall city-centre terraces. We look at the length, the height and the access, then send you a free written quote with no obligation before any work starts.
All of it and the villages around — from St Thomas, Wonford and Heavitree across to Pinhoe, and out to the newer estates at Cranbrook and Newcourt. We are based on Ferryman Way in Topsham, ten minutes from the city centre, so most of Exeter is genuinely on our doorstep.
Yes. A lot of the older stock around the Cathedral quarter and Southernhay still runs cast-iron or heavy-profile guttering, and we match the existing profile so a repaired section does not stand out as an obvious plastic patch. Where a full cast-iron replacement is not wanted, a like-for-like aluminium ogee reads the same from the ground.
We work Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm, and reply to every enquiry the same day. For a leaking joint or an overflowing downpipe we will get a look booked in and a free quote to you promptly, with no call-out charge just to come and assess what the run needs.
