Artificial Grass

Artificial Grass Cleaning across Devon

Artificial grass is low-maintenance, not no-maintenance. Over a few seasons the pile flattens, moss and algae creep in along the shaded edges, leaves and debris work into the surface, and pet areas start to hold odour. We clean and restore domestic and commercial artificial lawns across Devon — clearing the growth, lifting the pile and treating the surface so it looks and smells like it did the day it was laid.

The Moore & Franks approach

We start by clearing the surface debris — leaves, moss, windblown dirt and pet hair that have worked down into the pile and started to block the drainage backing underneath. A build-up here is what turns a well-drained lawn into a soggy, smelly one, so getting it out is the first job.

Next we brush the pile back up. Foot traffic and sun flatten artificial grass over time, and power-brushing lifts the fibres so the lawn stands up and looks full again. While we're on it we check the edges and seams — Devon's damp lifts poorly-fixed edges and lets weeds seed along the perimeter, so we re-tuck what's lifted and clear any growth that's taken hold.

For pet owners, the finish is a sanitising treatment. Artificial grass doesn't absorb like real turf, but urine salts sit in the pile and the backing and build up an ammonia smell in warmer weather — masking it doesn't work, so we treat the surface with a cleaner that breaks the odour down at source. The products we use are safe for children and pets once dry.

How it works

A clear, repeatable process.

No surprises, no upsells. The same method every job — that's how you get the same result every time.

  1. 01

    Survey & quote

We look at the size, age and condition of the lawn, check the drainage and pet use, then quote a fixed price — free and no-obligation.

  2. 02

    Debris clear & de-moss

Leaves, moss, algae and ground-in dirt are cleared from the pile and surface so water drains freely again.

  3. 03

    Brush & restore

The pile is power-brushed to lift the fibres, and lifted edges, seams and perimeter weeds are dealt with.

  4. 04

    Sanitise & deodorise

Where pets use the lawn, a child- and pet-safe treatment neutralises odour at source rather than masking it.

Frequently asked questions

It depends on the size of the lawn, its age and condition, and whether it's a pet area needing deodorising — so we quote each job on inspection, free and with no obligation.

For most Devon gardens once a year keeps it in good order — more often for lawns under trees, on shaded north-facing plots, or in regular pet use. A spring clean after the winter is the most popular.

Yes. Urine salts sit in the pile and backing and build an ammonia smell in warm weather. We treat the surface with a cleaner that breaks the odour down at source rather than masking it — the products are safe for children and pets once dry.

Usually a blocked backing. When moss, leaf litter and dirt work down into the pile they clog the drainage holes in the backing, so water sits and algae takes hold. Clearing the debris and de-mossing restores the drainage.

No. We clean at low pressure and brush with the pile, not against it. Artificial grass is more delicate than a hard surface, so we never blast it — the aim is to lift and clean the fibres, not tear them.
