The Moore & Franks approach in Cullompton

Cullompton's newer estates — Knightswood, Colebrook and the growing edges off Honiton Road — are full of the compact, low-maintenance gardens that artificial grass suits busy families. But sitting low in the damp Culm valley, lawns here green up in the pile on shaded plots, and the heavy tree cover along the river drops leaf litter that works into the drainage backing and blocks it. Farmland on every edge adds pollen and dust to the mix. We clear the moss and ground-in debris, power-brush the fibres back up, deal with lifted edges and perimeter weeds, and deodorise pet areas at source. Cullompton has grown fast, and a lot of its artificial lawns went down on brand-new estate plots where the garden is small and the ground beneath was compacted flat by the builders. That base drains poorly to begin with, so when the pile and backing silt up on top the water has nowhere to go and the lawn turns spongy. Clearing the surface and reopening the drainage holes in the backing is what gives that water a route out again.

On the family estates the lawns get hammered — children, trampolines, garden furniture dragged about — and heavy use in one spot presses the infill down and lays the pile flat until it looks worn out. Cross-brushing lifts those flattened fibres and works the infill back level, so the surface evens up and gets its bounce back. It is the difference between a lawn that looks tired and one that stands like it did when it went down.

In the old core around Fore Street and St Andrew's the gardens are a different beast — small, enclosed courtyards behind listed and conservation-area frontages, often shaded for most of the day. Those green up quickly and want a careful annual clean to stay respectable, with no heavy-handed pressure near old fabric. A quick brush-off of leaves through autumn keeps the Culm-valley damp from turning the surface green before we are next round.

Our Cullompton customers are typically within 20 minutes of our Exeter base. We cover the wider EX15 postcode area and the surrounding villages (St Andrew's Church, Fore Street conservation area, The Walronds, Culm Valley, Knightswood estate, Colebrook).

How it works

A clear, repeatable process.

No surprises, no upsells. The same method every job — that's how you get the same result every time.

  1. 01

    Survey & quote

We look at the size, age and condition of the lawn, check the drainage and pet use, then quote a fixed price — free and no-obligation.

  2. 02

    Debris clear & de-moss

Leaves, moss, algae and ground-in dirt are cleared from the pile and surface so water drains freely again.

  3. 03

    Brush & restore

The pile is power-brushed to lift the fibres, and lifted edges, seams and perimeter weeds are dealt with.

  4. 04

    Sanitise & deodorise

Where pets use the lawn, a child- and pet-safe treatment neutralises odour at source rather than masking it.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers to the questions we get asked the most. If yours isn't here, drop us a line — we reply same day.

We give a free quote after seeing the lawn rather than a flat rate. Size and condition drive it; on the newer Cullompton estates the small, level plots are usually quick and sit at the lower end, while a larger or badly waterlogged lawn needing the drainage reopened takes more.

All of EX15 — the Knightswood and Colebrook estates, the Fore Street conservation area and the newer developments off Honiton Road. We are about twenty minutes up the M5 from our Topsham base, so Cullompton is an easy run for a survey.

Usually the drainage backing has silted up over a compacted base, common on new estate plots. We clear the debris out of the pile and reopen the perforations in the backing so water drains through again. If the ground beneath was poorly prepared we will tell you honestly what a clean can and cannot fix.

Message us with your postcode, or a photo or two, and we will come back to you the same day. We work Monday to Friday, eight to five, and most gardens are a single visit. Nothing to pay for the quote, and no obligation.
