The Moore & Franks approach in Newton Abbot

Newton Abbot's newer estates around Mile End, Decoy and Kingsteignton have taken to artificial grass for the same reason as everywhere — small gardens, busy families, no mowing. But the town's low, damp position in the Teign valley works against it: shaded plots under the heavy tree cover around Decoy and Bradley grow moss into the pile, and leaf fall blocks the drainage backing so the lawn sits wet and starts to smell. We clear the growth and ground-in debris, power-brush the pile back to full, deal with lifted edges and perimeter weeds, and neutralise pet odour at source rather than masking it. Free quote, fully insured, local team.

On the sloping plots climbing away from the valley floor — the gardens stepped up through Highweek and Wolborough — an artificial lawn drains and wears unevenly. Water and loose infill drift toward the bottom edge, so the low corner packs down, stays wet and grows moss while the top of the lawn dries out and thins. Getting a slope like that right means brushing the pile and infill back up the gradient, not just skimming the surface, so it stands and drains evenly again.

In the deepest shade — gardens backing onto the woods on the Milber side of town — you get more than a green film: proper cushions of moss establish on the pile itself, the way they would on a north-facing roof. That has to be broken up and lifted out of the fibres before any treatment can work, otherwise you are just wetting the top of it. We clear it right down to the backing so the surface is genuinely clean, then leave it treated to slow the regrowth.

A lawn in the bottom of the Teign valley simply gets less drying time than one on open ground, so the heavily shaded plots here often do best on a twice-yearly clean rather than an annual one. A good spring visit knocks back the winter's growth, and a lighter autumn tidy clears the leaf load before it beds in. Keeping the surface swept between times makes a real difference to how long the drainage stays free-running.

Our Newton Abbot customers are typically within 30 minutes of our Exeter base. We cover the wider TQ12 postcode area and the surrounding villages (Wolborough, Highweek, Milber, Kingsteignton, Decoy Country Park, Bradley Manor).

How it works

A clear, repeatable process.

No surprises, no upsells. The same method every job — that's how you get the same result every time.

  1. 01

    Survey & quote

We look at the size, age and condition of the lawn, check the drainage and pet use, then quote a fixed price — free and no-obligation.

  2. 02

    Debris clear & de-moss

Leaves, moss, algae and ground-in dirt are cleared from the pile and surface so water drains freely again.

  3. 03

    Brush & restore

The pile is power-brushed to lift the fibres, and lifted edges, seams and perimeter weeds are dealt with.

  4. 04

    Sanitise & deodorise

Where pets use the lawn, a child- and pet-safe treatment neutralises odour at source rather than masking it.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers to the questions we get asked the most. If yours isn't here, drop us a line — we reply same day.

We do not work to a fixed rate — every lawn is quoted free once we have seen it. Size and condition matter most, and here the deep-shade plots that have grown thick moss take more clearing than a lightly soiled lawn, so those sit a little higher for the extra work.

Yes. We cover all of TQ12 — Wolborough, Highweek and Milber, out to Kingsteignton and the Decoy side. It is about half an hour from our Topsham base, an easy run down the A380.

Yes, that is a common job in the valley's shaded gardens. We break up and lift the moss out of the pile down to the drainage backing, brush the fibres back upright, then treat the surface to slow it returning. It is cleared, not just flattened and hidden.

Send over your postcode or a few photos and we will respond the same day. Surveys and cleans both run Monday to Friday, eight to five, and the majority of gardens take one visit. The quote is free in writing with no pressure to proceed.
