Newton Abbot spreads across a damp river valley, and that low-lying setting shows on the walls. That mid-century render is porous and sits on north-facing gables that see little sun down here in the Teign valley, so it draws in damp and greens over steadily. We treat the whole elevation at low pressure, lifting the algae out of the surface rather than blasting it, which keeps the render intact and the colour even.

Walls that never properly dry are a gift to algae and lichen, and no amount of scrubbing keeps it away for long. Nearer the centre, around Courtenay Street and the old station, the Victorian terraces carry original render and paintwork that a jet wash would take the face off. These older frontages want a gentle approach, and soft washing gives it, working the biocide into the surface at low pressure so the growth dies back without any water driven behind the render. It is the safe way to freshen tired TQ12 stock without opening it up to more moisture.
