Plymouth's a big coastal city, and its roofs reflect it — rebuilt post-war terraces across the centre, Victorian streets in the Hoe and Mutley, and newer estates spreading out to the edges. Around the Barbican and Stoke the older limestone and rendered stock carries soot staining and biological growth together, and harsh cleaning damages soft historic surfaces. We keep it gentle, using DOFF superheated steam that works on heat rather than pressure, and a biocide to kill the algae at source. It is the right approach for the waterfront's period fabric rather than blasting it clean.

The modern K-Rend estates out at Sherford and Saltram Meadow streak and discolour fast in the damp maritime air, and the exposed coastal frontages at Mount Batten and Wembury cop the worst of the weather coming up the Channel.
