The Moore & Franks approach in Exeter
Exeter's solar uptake has climbed fast, from the new-build estates around Cranbrook and Monkerton to retrofitted Victorian terraces near St James. The problem is the same across all of them: panels facing the prevailing south-westerlies pick up a film of dust, pollen and bird mess that quietly eats into your generation. We're a family-run Devon firm with our HQ on Ferryman Way in Topsham, so Exeter is right on our doorstep. We use purified water and reach-and-wash poles to lift the grime without scratching the glass or touching your inverter. No harsh chemicals, no clambering on tiles, just panels working at the output you actually paid for.
The sheltered Exe valley traps humid, slow-drying air, and that is what quietly furs solar panels here with a green algae film. On the shaded, north-leaning roofs common around St Thomas, Wonford and the older parts of Heavitree, that growth never gets a proper spell of drying wind, so it thickens season on season and scatters light before it reaches the cells. We lift it with pure water and soft bristles, leaving the glass spot-free once it dries.
Most Exeter owners only notice the loss when they check the generation figures on their inverter app and see the summer output sagging below what the panels managed a couple of years back. A gentle wash usually recovers a good slice of that in one visit, and because the Exe valley keeps things damp year-round, an annual clean tends to hold the gain rather than letting the film creep straight back onto the array.
Reaching panels safely is the other half of the job, and Exeter throws up every roof height going, from the tight two-storey terraces around St Leonard's to the taller townhouses near Southernhay and the Quay. We work entirely from firm ground on carbon-fibre poles, so nothing leans against your tiles, guttering or the panel frames. Clean glass, no ladders, no fuss.
Our Exeter customers are right on our doorstep. We cover the wider EX1, EX2, EX3, EX4, EX5 postcode area and the surrounding villages (St Leonard's, Heavitree, Pinhoe, Topsham, Pennsylvania, Exeter Quay).

Solar cleaning is £7 + VAT per panel across Exeter, with a free written quote first. A low bungalow array off Pinhoe is quicker to reach than a three-storey townhouse near Southernhay, but both are worked safely from the ground and the per-panel rate stays the same.
All of it, from St Leonard's, Heavitree and Pennsylvania through to Pinhoe, St Thomas and the newer estates at Cranbrook, Newcourt and Monkerton. Being based just down the road in Topsham, the whole city and its EX postcodes are on our doorstep.
No. We use only purified water and soft brush heads, with no detergents and no abrasive pads, so there is nothing to scratch the glass or affect the anti-reflective coating. It is the same gentle approach whether your array sits on Victorian slate or a modern Cranbrook estate roof.
Call or drop us a message and we will reply the same day with a free quote. We are a two-man father-and-son firm working Monday to Friday, eight to five, and being local to Exeter we can usually fit a panel clean around a gutter or roof visit on the same trip.
