Sidmouth's Regency villas and the red-cliff backdrop make for a handsome town, but that same setting works against solar panels. Easterly gales drive sea spray up over the Esplanade, and fine red dust off the Jurassic cliffs settles on south-facing roofs across Sidford and Woolbrook.
