The Moore & Franks approach in Plymouth

Plymouth is a city of contrasts for cleaning work: the rebuilt post-war centre, the historic Barbican's cobbles and old stone, the waterfront properties facing the Sound and street after street of hard-working terraces. The coastal exposure brings salt and damp, the city traffic brings grime, and shaded paths and patios green over through the wetter months. Moore & Franks scale up properly for the city, handling everything from a Barbican courtyard that needs a careful touch to a large commercial forecourt that needs power. We're a family-run Devon firm with 25 years' experience and £5m insurance. Dependable, well-equipped and ready to restore any Plymouth surface.

Mutley and Mannamead's leafy Edwardian avenues are lined with big bay-fronted villas, and their tiled front paths, tessellated steps and sizeable rear patios collect green fast under all that mature tree cover. These period surfaces are often original and want a knowing hand: we work the pressure down on soft tile and old stone, or soft wash, so the growth lifts without cracking or pitting anything. A clean tessellated path really lifts the look of one of these houses.

Out at Plymstock, Plympton and the newer estates at Sherford, the modern block and imprinted-concrete drives take salt-bearing wind straight off the Sound and green over on their shaded sides within a few winters. Full power suits the hard block, and we re-sand the joints once it is clean. The 1930s concrete drives across Peverell and Crownhill come back a generation younger with a proper wash. Astroturf and decking in the smaller gardens get the low-pressure treatment.

The steep terraced streets running down toward the water make access a factor, so we plan visits and run hoses neatly, and we take on commercial forecourts, unit frontages and graffiti clearance across the city as readily as domestic drives. Because the maritime damp brings growth straight back, an optional biocide top-coat after cleaning is worth having on shaded surfaces. We cover PL1 to PL7 on weekdays, quote free in writing, and reply the same day.

Our Plymouth customers are typically within 1 hour of our Exeter base. We cover the wider PL1, PL2, PL3, PL4, PL5, PL6, PL7 postcode area and the surrounding villages (Plymouth Hoe, The Barbican, Devonport, Mutley & Mannamead, Plymstock, Plympton St Maurice).

How it works

A clear, repeatable process.

No surprises, no upsells. The same method every job — that's how you get the same result every time.

  1. 01

    Survey the surface

We assess the surface type and condition so we can set the right pressure and choose between jet washing or a gentler soft wash.

  2. 02

    Clean at controlled pressure

Using high-powered equipment at the pressure best suited to the job, we work through the surface methodically for fast, even results.

  3. 03

    Specialist treatments

Where needed, we apply a pet-deodorising treatment to astroturf or target graffiti with our high-powered system.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers to the questions we get asked the most. If yours isn't here, drop us a line — we reply same day.

Work starts at £80 + VAT, and the final price depends mostly on the area and the surface. A standard domestic drive in Peverell or Plymstock sits near the base rate, while a large commercial forecourt or a big multi-level villa terrace takes longer. Every quote is free and confirmed in writing first.

All of PL1 to PL7, from the Hoe and the Barbican to Mutley, Mannamead and Devonport, and out to Plymstock and Plympton St Maurice. We clean domestic drives and patios as well as commercial forecourts, right across the city.

Yes, carefully. The tessellated and quarry-tiled paths common on the older Plymouth villas get a lower pressure or a soft wash, so the algae lifts without cracking or loosening the tiles. Robust modern concrete and block drives elsewhere can safely take full power.

Send a few photos and a rough idea of the area by phone or online, and we will send a free written quote, usually the same day. We work Monday to Friday and price both one-off cleans and regular commercial contracts.
